These are free preview walks ahead of the launch of our summer series.

Immerse yourself in the history of the airfield during the Cold War. Take a walk from the Tower with our guides taking in some of the key features, including:

  • The runway, the original tarmac at the taxiway crossover point
  • The Chemical Decontamination Suite on the business park (outside only)
  • The Fire Plane, used for fire training
  • The Ground Launched Cruise Missile Alert and Maintenance Area (outside only)
  • The Women’s Peace Camp Blue Gate

The walk starts from the front porch of the Control Tower, is 3 miles long and takes approx. 2½ hours.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear, since some of the terrain is uneven. Make sure that you also bring water to drink, sunhats, sun cream, rainwear, according to the weather. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a lead so as not to disturb other walkers. Walkers join at their own risk.  No unaccompanied minors. If you wish to leave early, please tell the walk leader.
